MISSION
ABOUT

At Pollywogger, we don't like the word "nanny" or "agency." They're reductive, carry stigmas, and are misleading. Sure, we're a "nanny agency," but because we like words, relationships, and clear communication, we get into the semantics.

NANNY

Too often we've heard “nanny” used interchangeably with “babysitter” or “au pair.”  Our nannies aren't the middleschooler in the building that you only use for date night, to watch the kids while they sleep. "Nanny" has had a hard time moving past the umbrella-toting, fantastical and fanciful Mary Poppins image.  While she is self-proclaimed, "Practically perfect in every way!", and you'd be hard pressed to find a parent who doesn't want to hire her and a nanny who doesn't want to be her, we elevate her to this perfect nanny status because she's fiction. I'm convinced, in real life, you wouldn't hire Mary Poppins.  Aside from going on a date during working hours, exposing the kids to friends who are presumably doing drugs (Laughing their way to the ceiling?  Really?), and letting kids run around rooftops without guard rails, she has a poor relationship with Mr. and Mrs. Banks—and what parent in their right mind is going to trust a nanny in their home and with their children who they themselves have a negative image of?

At Pollywogger, we aim to match parents with people whose presence enriches their lives and the lives of their children.  People who not only train, mentor, encourage, and grow a healthy and happy next generation alongside of parents, but people who support and enliven parents through doing so.

The Praetorian Guard was an elite recruitment of Roman citizens and Latins that were a special force of skilled and celebrated troupes.  Our "nannies" are more praetorians: an elite recruitment of specially skilled and celebrated trustees to join your parenting team, and less fictional, debatably disturbed, Disney characters.

AGENCY

Besides simply sounding awful, an agency is a business or service authorized to act for others.  More simplistically it may be just a business that provides a particular service, but this is too reductive for our taste.  Yes, we work to serve you, but just like parents and "nannies" must partner to work together and support each other in raising children, ours is an active relationship that requires involvement from you to reach the happily ever after you're looking for.  Yes, we do the legwork, but to match you, we must know you.  We're a family building service.  A parent (and nanny!) support network.  We're cultivating long lasting relationships that work together to bring up children.  We're closer to match makers than we are agents, and we're supporting you in building a community for yourselves and your family, not just acting for you.

So, though it didn't fit on our logo, feel free to tell your friends that you're using Pollywogger: New York City's First Praetorian / Mentor / Trainer / Enlivener / Supporter / Trustee and Parent Matching Service / Family Building and Parental Support System Partnership!
